California: 26-year-old Giants pitcher Joe Martinez was taken to hospital with concussion, a swollen eye, and a bad cut after being hit in the head by a line drive struck by Brewers center fielder Mike Cameron.
Martinez collapsed, struggled to his feet momentarily, before going down a second time and staying down. Cameron, who took a bad head knock during a game in 2005, completed a double but was clearly upset by the injury to the pitcher.
The injury cast a cloud over the Giants’ 7-1 victory over Milwaukee. According to Giants executive Bobby Evans, Martinez “seems to be ok”. Cameron has sent his regards to Martinez.
